Anatomy of a Successful HCAI Project

Hospital construction projects are complex and challenging, especially in California with the addition of HCAI (Department of Healthcare Access and Information, formally OSHPD) regulations and oversight.

Attend this session, hosted by the AIACV Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH) to:

• Learn what factors affect plan review time

• How to clearly define the intent of a project

• Find out what resources are available during design and construction

• Know what’s required to comply with the Energy code for healthcare facilities

• Learn what phasing should be shown on drawings

• Discover best practices during construction

About the Presenter: Richard Tannahill, Supervisor, Building Standards Unit, HCAI

Richard Tannahill is the Supervisor of the Building Standards Unit (BSU) with HCAI (Department of Healthcare Access and Information, formally OSHPD). A licensed architect since 1995, he has over 30 years of architectural experience of which over 25 years is in healthcare specializing in project management, building code, and construction administration. Richard is a past board member of the Hospital Building Safety Board and continues to be an active staff participant. He has been with HCAI since April 2015, and is currently working on 2022 code revisions.
