Last Wednesday, January 16th AIA Central Valley hosted a gathering to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated Mustard Seed School Outreach Cottage. Despite the pouring rain, the group was in high spirits as they gathered to acknowledge and thank everyone who contributed to the project, and to walk through the completed cottage.
Brian Sehnert, AIA, 2018 AIACV President and Laura Knauss, AIA the Chair of our Committee for Architecture Education (CAE) thanked the donors, volunteers and staff of Mustard Seed School for their collective efforts in bringing this project to completion. Over 60 people volunteered over a six-month span, with donations of products and labor totaling approximately $25,000.
The renovation kicked off last summer with a brainstorming charrette at the Chapter office, bringing together architects, product reps, emerging professionals and students together to develop a plan.
Lasertech Floorplans stepped up to provide visuals floorplans of the existing cottage, and MeTEOR created the new plans and visual representations to share with Mustard Seed and the charrette committee, who made decisions and modifications
The project formally kicked off during the Experience Architecture. Prior to the public work day Clark / Sullivan came in and did significant demo and construction work on the cottage, allowing teams and individual volunteers to focus on painting, flooring, baseboards, and other projects.
In addition to thanking all of the supporters, Knauss and Executive Director Kimberly Anderson recognized Casey Knittel, Mustard School Director and her staff for their patience and helpfulness during the process.
Our thanks to everyone involved in this special
project that will directly impact the staff, parents and students of Mustard
Seed School.
