This seminar is an advanced-level class which will present a methodical analysis of Chapter 11B of the California Building Code through case-studies of actual projects. This seminar will make an abundant use of case-study floor plans and photos to clarify the code requirements as they specifically relate to healthcare facilities (both OSHPD and non-OSHPD application).
Bill is the in-house accessibility expert managing accessibility upgrades throughout Sutter Health’s 24 hospitals and 200+ medical office buildings. After this workshop you will have a much better understanding of the minimum requirements of accessibility as it relates to design. you will learn of the recent changes in 11B effective July 1st, 2021 specific to Public accommodations and Commercial Facilities. The class will focus on the areas of the 2019 California Building Code Chapter 11B which are most commonly misunderstood and/or misapplied; the changes to the laws that become effective July 1, 2021; the importance of NOT designing or constructing required accessible elements to the minimum or maximums and the consequences if you do, will be explored.
Mark Wood, CASp has been responsible for ensuring compliance with California accessibility requirements found in the California Building Code Title 24 and American With Disabilities Act for over 20 years. Along with Paul Klein, he owns and operates California Certified Accessibility Specialists, (CalCasp) offering a full range of accessibility compliance services to assist businesses, property owners and architects in complying with Senate Bill 1608 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
