Tell us how you and your company are active in our community:
Miyamoto International has been in business for over 75 years. From our five-man humble beginnings in Sacramento, CA, we have grown into a strong engineering firm with over 300 staff and 28 locations in four continents. Including our headquarters in Sacramento, CA, we have offices in all major cities in California, Nevada and Washington D.C. We provide both structural and MEP expertise to a diverse assortment of market sectors that include, but are not limited to, civic, commercial, residential, education, mixed-use, federal, healthcare, entertainment and hospitality.
Miyamoto has been an active member of the Sacramento community for over 75 years and a sponsor of the AIA Central Valley chapter for well over a decade. Our employees are members of many associations, some of which include SEAOC, DBIA, ASIC, SMPS and SAME. We encourage our employees to engage and actively participate in our community. Most recently we participated in the CREATE mentorship program, MTA’s We Care holiday event supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento and Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sacramento’s Women Build program. We have also consistently played in the AEC softball league, doing our best to get a trophy picture every year despite not actually winning the tournament (there is always next year!)
We love to serve our communities, which is why we have a dedicated non-profit arm called Miyamoto Relief that is facilitated by our offices all over the world. Miyamoto Relief’s goal is to “sustain life in at-risk communities around the world.” In order to bring awareness about Miyamoto Relief’s mission, we held our first art-inspired event in the US, Night of 1000 Drawings. In 2019, this event came to Sacramento and raised $25,000 to provide much-needed facility improvements to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento’s Raley Teen Center gym in downtown.
Why do you volunteer?
At the core of Miyamoto’s culture is our desire to “make the world a better, safer place.” It is not only a passion of ours, but we feel it is our civic duty to support the communities we live and work in. Simply put, if we can make things better, then why not? Ultimately, being involved in our community and finding ways to make it safer or better benefits us all.
