The CAE Committee has several exciting plans and activities for 2023. We are energized by our recent in-person quarterly meeting that hosted 25 architects working in education design. The CAE invites you to join in and engage, as all are welcome! We would love to have ALL our regional “school design” firms represented – from emerging professionals to seasoned pros – as well as our allied and sustaining partners, to provide their input and expertise into our regional programming. Already a CAE member? Bring a friend!
In the works for this year:
As in the past, we will be hosting our popular school site tours this year and are currently asking our education design firms to submit K-12 and higher education projects they would like to share. The tours are typically followed by a networking mixer.
The CAE and Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee’s “Architecture by the Book” program introduces K-8 students to age-appropriate books focusing on underrepresented architects and architecture–combined with a hands-on activity. The goal of the initiative is to plant seeds within our local schools to educate kids on what architects do through project-based learning. Several firms have already stepped up to sponsor a book and develop a sample box of materials and tools to complete the activity. The committee brainstormed at our last meeting and is currently working on next steps to launch a pilot program later this year. Watch for more information in the coming months.
As part of Experience Architecture, CAE plans to coordinate another “Hands-On Architecture” children and family event. The event gives participants an opportunity to build, sketch and draw with architect volunteers. It was a big success last year, and a lot of fun for all involved.
This Thursday, CAE along with the EDI Committee will be joining the Emerging Professional’s (EP) Social Crawl Series at Sac Yard Community Tap House. Come out and join in on conversation and meet with our EP’s!
Join the CAE’s Basecamp Project for meeting dates and agendas. Contact the Chapter office at [email protected]. CAE Meetings provide a great opportunity to hear from our California State Architect, Ida Clair, AIA, and learn from her always amazing DSA Updates as well as a chance to see what we’re up to and add your ideas and projects to the mix.
