The AIA Central Valley Emerging Professionals are thrilled to host Lisa Sauve’ AIA, one of our esteemed 2021 Design Award jurors, for a noontime presentation exploring her approach to practice and projects, including: elevating the mindset of the Great Lakes region as a design hub, leading innovative projects by partnering in collaborative ventures, and creating projects that advance fabrication through architecture.
Lisa is Co-Founding Principal and CEO of Synecdoche Design Studio (si-nek-duh-kee), anaward-winning design/make architecture practice with studios in Ann Arbor and Detroit. She and partner Adam Smith founded Synecdoche while they were students at University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
She is also the Co-founder of StudioStudio, a modern venue and creative space in Ann Arbor. Lisa has been recognized as Crain’s Detroit Notable Women in Design in 2020, on the Forbes Next 1000–and this year received the AIA Michigan Young Architect Award.
Lisa is a small business investor and incremental development partner on projects, with an interest revolving around how the built environment can strengthen community and connection in creative new ways that results in the core mission of “Do Good Work”.
A licensed architect in the State of Michigan, she currently serves as a planning commissioner for the City of Ann Arbor. She holds degrees for M. Arch and MSc. in Conservation from Taubman College at the University of Michigan and a B.S. in Architecture from Lawrence Technological University. She has also taught undergraduate and graduate level courses at University of Detroit Mercy, Lawrence Technological
University, and the University of Michigan Taubman College.
