Accessibility Compliance for California Healthcare Facilities – 2024

ALL NEW SEMINAR – ALL NEW MATERIAL!

This seminar will be a new format, split into two halves, an ‘Accessibility 201’ in the morning session, and an ‘Accessibility 301’ in the afternoon session.

Accessibility 201 – Fundamentals of Accessibility in Healthcare:

The morning session will lay out the fundamentals of scoping and technical code requirements for Healthcare Facilities including the following:

  • Scoping for Healthcare – Code Section 11B-223
  • Path of Travel – Case Studies
  • Technical Accessibility Requirements – Code Section 11B-805
  • Medical Floor Plans – Clearance Requirements
  • OSHPD / HCAI Interpretations
  • New Code Updates – 2022 CBC Mid-Code Cycle Updates

Accessibility 301 – Advanced-Level Challenges in Healthcare:

The afternoon session will cover a collection of unique and thought-provoking accessibility challenges in healthcare including the following:

  • Bariatrics
  • Reach Range Complaints – Case Study on Upper Cabinets
  • Patient Lifts and Associated Challenges
  • Ed Roberts Campus – Case Study – How to do it right!
  • Locks vs. Automatic Door Openers vs. Privacy at Toilet Rooms
  • Sliding Barn Doors in Healthcare
  • Swinging Doors – Force-to-Open Solutioning: Closers and Openers
  • Patient Complaints
  • Patient Injuries
  • Drop-Off Areas: 11B-250
  • Communication Challenges

The seminar will use case-studies of actual projects and make an abundant use of floor plans and photographs to clarify the code requirements as they specifically relate to healthcare facilities (both OSHPD and non-OSHPD application). The learning objectives are:

  1. Detailed Understanding of Path of Travel Obligations in Healthcare Remodel Projects
  2. Detailed Understanding of Scoping Requirements – Specific to Healthcare Facilities
  3. Detailed Understanding of Clearances Required in Patient Care Areas
  4. Unique Accessibility Situations in Healthcare
