Become a Certified Safety Assessment Evaluator!
Be the expert communities rely on after a disaster.
The Cal-OES Safety Assessment Program (SAP) Evaluator Training equips architects, engineers, and building inspectors with the critical skills needed to assess buildings and facilities in the wake of a disaster. When disasters strike, people are forced from their homes, businesses shut down, and communities are left in turmoil. As a trained SAP Evaluator, you’ll play a vital role in determining which structures are safe for occupancy and which require restricted access—helping communities recover faster.
Why Become a SAP Evaluator?
Required Evaluator Field Manuals
ATC 45 | ATC 20 Participants must purchase these manuals from ATC prior to attending the course (not included in course cost).
What You’ll Learn
How to assess building safety in disaster-stricken areas. How to mentor others in health, safety, and welfare evaluations. Best practices for collaborating with local governments during emergencies. How to become a credentialed SAP Evaluator and contribute to recovery efforts.
Not Yet Licensed? You Can Still Participate!
While this training is designed for licensed architects, engineers, and certified building inspectors, Associate AIA members are encouraged to attend! By completing the training, you’ll gain early exposure to disaster assessment and contribute to building a strong pipeline of future SAP Evaluators.
Trainer: This course will be taught by Matt Melcher, SE | LEED AP BD+C | Principal, Lionakis.
Bonus: If you obtain your license within five years of completing the course, you’ll be eligible for certification and receive your Cal-OES registration ID card. Until then, you can participate in deployments under the supervision of a certified SAP Evaluator.
