Join AIACV’s EDI Knowledge Community for a powerful and insightful virtual program highlighting the City of Sacramento’s LGBTQ+ Historic Experience Project—a groundbreaking effort to uncover and preserve the rich and often overlooked history of Sacramento’s LGBTQ+ community.Funded by the State Office of Historic Preservation’s Certified Local Government Program and the City of Sacramento, this project produced the City’s first-ever thematic historic context statement and survey focused specifically on LGBTQ+ history. Completed in December 2024, the project sheds light on the stories, spaces, and milestones that have shaped Sacramento’s LGBTQ+ experience.Explore the newly adopted historic context statement, learn about the potential Lavender Heights Historic District, and discover key sites and properties identified as significant to LGBTQ+ heritage in the region. Hear how the collaborative work of City staff, consultants, and community advocates brought this important chapter of Sacramento’s history into focus.
