DesigNarrative Speaker Series featuring ZGF

April 26, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

This event will focus on the firm’s work in Sacramento, centered on four interesting projects of different scales and in different phases.

Evolving from a single office with strong regional roots, to a firm with six offices across North America and 750+ staff, ZGF’s goal has always been to pioneer a holistic and humane understanding of the relationship between buildings, people, and the environment.

Their design is influenced by a deep desire to effect positive change. Three core principles drive ZGF’s work: making a difference in people’s lives, fighting climate change, and advancing social justice.

The firm is an industry leader in evolving sustainable design. They embraced sustainable design as a core value long before “green” or “LEED” became common phrases. They pilot novel approaches – like a building with no mechanical heating and cooling in one of North America’s coldest climate zones – and then apply them at all scales to make the greatest impact. And they champion regenerative approaches to cities and neighborhoods, designing ecodistricts and smart cities with social and environmental strategies that balance water, energy, and people’s vitality.

This event will focus on the firm’s work in Sacramento, centered on four interesting projects of different scales and in different phases:

• Clifford L. Allenby Building – A 374,000 SF high-performance office building for the California Department of General Services. Completed in 2021. Presenter: Todd – AIA, LEED AP BD+C, DBIA

• CalSTRS West Building – A 265,000 SF office building for the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS), located adjacent to the existing HQ building and will round out the West Campus. In construction / slated for completion in 2023. Presenter: Franco – AIA

• Richards Boulevard Office Complex – A 1.2M SF high-performance office campus for the California Department of General Services. In construction (all four towers recently topped out) / slated for completion in 2024. Presenter: Allyn – AIA, LEED AP

• Wexford Science + Technology / UC Davis Aggie Square – ZGF is designing three of five new buildings making up the Aggie Square Phase 1 development, an innovation hub that brings together the public and private sectors. The three buildings include: 327,800 SF Life Sciences Technology Engineering (LSTE) East; 249,600 SF LSTE West; and 274,700 SF Lifelong Learning Tower (LLL). Presenter: Vlad – AIA, LEED AP

The desigNarrative Speaker Series gives local architects, designers and members of the community who are interested in what drives thoughtful and innovative design and opportunity to dialogue with noteworthy architects and firms about their inspirational work. Come, participate and be inspired!
