Join us to explore how adaptive reuse of office buildings and related commercial spaces can be a key solution to modern housing challenges.

New DIGGS in Downtown Sacramento: Transforming Office Buildings into Housing

Presented by the AIACV Housing Task Force

INFO: Thursday, Oct. 3 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM

WHERE: The Diggs, 1800 3rd St, Sacramento 95814

OVERVIEW: As cities evolve and the demand for housing grows, the conversion of office buildings to residential use presents an exceptional opportunity to address housing shortages, revitalize urban landscapes, and promote sustainability. This event will focus on Heller Pacific’s project to convert the Thompson Diggs building to residential and associated commercial uses. While this building was originally designed as a warehouse, it has been most recently used as an office building. This event will explore how adaptive reuse of office buildings and related commercial spaces can be a key solution to modern housing challenges.

This event brings together architects and interested citizens, the Diggs project team, and an architect involved in conversion research to discuss innovative approaches, case studies, and the social, economic, and environmental benefits of repurposing commercial buildings. Attendees will learn about the latest trends in design, zoning regulations, financial considerations, and the importance of preserving the character of urban environments while creating livable, community-centered spaces. The presentations will be followed by tours of The Diggs led by team members from Heller Pacific (Developer), 19six Architects (Architect), and Brown Construction (Contractor).

Join us as we reimagine urban development and explore how transforming underused office buildings into vibrant housing solutions can shape the cities of tomorrow.
