Historic Architects On-line Project Needs Volunteers

By Paula Boghosian, Hon. AIACV
Historic Environment Consultants

Our cities and suburbs are created by individuals and business entities with a designed environment to share, and remain in shaping our visual built environments and aesthetic responses. We, the inhabitants, are often curious about who they are, and what was their inspiration or intent. We are sensitive to our surrounds and interested in interacting with them, but often are unaware of their creators.

A project is currently envisioned that will collect and provide information about these creators in order to both better understand their inspirations and enjoy their products. This project will provide research and information about Sacramento architects and environmental designers from the Gold Rush to present time, enhancing our knowledge and appreciation of their transformative activities. Designers and builders of Sacramento and regional works will be researched and information about their work and philosophies will be made available on-line and in print for any interested and architecturally curious Sacramentans.

Current plans may involve Sacramento State University and UC Davis students and researchers, the Center for Sacramento History, and the Central Valley Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. This trove of information about the built environment of our City and region will greatly enhance our appreciations of its character, its evolution, and the individuals that contributed to its establishment. Our built environment has a strong voice of its own that is uniquely ours to recognize.

If you’re interested in helping with this project, please contact Paula at 916-488-1680.
