I am excited to share that the AIA Central Valley Chapter’s Emerging Professionals have established a perpetual endowed scholarship in honor of longtime member John Ellis, AIA. The scholarship will be managed by the Sacramento Region Community Foundation and will be in recognition of John’s significant service to the profession of architecture–both through his involvement with the Chapter, and for his noteworthy contribution as a professor of architecture at Cosumnes River College, a position from which he retired after 34 years in 2016.
As one of John’s past students, I am very honored to be serving in a leadership role to establish the scholarship in his name. I would like to invite you to join me in this opportunity to give back and help support the next generation of architects by contributing to the scholarship fund.
Our goal is to raise $25,500.00 which will enable us to establish a perpetual endowed scholarship to assist students engaged in architectural studies specifically. The fund will provide an annual scholarship of at least $500 per year for students at either a community college, or 4 year accredited university.
In addition to reaching out our member firms, we also plan to “crowd fund” past students and colleagues so they can be a part of this effort with smaller donations.
A scholarship in John’s name, available to students within the Chapter’s 17 county boundary, is a wonderful way to support the profession in our region, and shape the education of our future architects. Thank you for your consideration and support!
