AIA Central Valley is excited to share that our Chapter has received an AIA College of Fellows Component Grant for Emerging Professionals!
The grant provides funding for our new “Lead for Licensing,” program, which is designed to promote licensure by increasing mentorship and firm involvement. The grant benefits AIA Firms, by providing a FREE ARE Course registration to licensed AIA architects who volunteer their time to help lead one of the sessions. Free registrations are limited, please read on to learn more.
AIACV led the nation as the first local Chapter to obtain a component license to show AIA/ARE Prep Black Spectacles video courses at the local level in a group setting. Our weekend group sessions include three mentors: a sage member (licensed more than 10 years, principal level), an EP member (licensed less than 10 years, ideally tested in the last 5 years), and an associate member (who sets-up and assists). The AIA ARE Prep / Black Spectacles online education program consists of high-quality video courses taught by practicing architects. Check it out here:
Students watch the videos and receive guidance from both sage architects and emerging professionals who have recently taken the exams. This format further drives their understanding of the material and provides support and motivation to stay the course and pass the exam.
Each section takes approximately 5 weeks to teach. The program needs an on-going pool of “sage” architects who are licensed more than 2 years (preferably with 15+ years of experience in the Architectural industry) to watch the videos with the group, discuss the concepts presented and answer questions. A detailed syllabus will be provided, and sessions may be divided up among colleagues. Participating leaders will receive a FREE 5.0 registration thanks to the grant.
Courses start in February. If you have questions, or are interested in leading an ARE course, and receiving a free course, please contact our ARE Program Chair, Christopher Holt, AIA, [email protected], or contact the Chapter: 916-444-3658, [email protected]
