We all know by now that these are unprecedented times! This past year the Chapter, like all of us, has been challenged to find new ways to operate, provide resources and continue providing valuable events to our members. Typically, in a calendar year, the AIA Central Valley (AIACV) will hold an average of 50 events in person, either in our gallery, or within the community. These events have a nominal charge, but do help fund our operational costs.
AIA values include this statement: “we advocate for the value of architecture and give architects the resources they need to do their best work. Our work drives positive change through the power of design.” Looking at the silver lining during this pandemic – our virtual events have increased attendance and participation as it’s easier to plug-in from anywhere and at any time. We have been grateful to welcome new faces at all our committee meetings and events and, as we transition from fully virtual to hybrid events, we look forward to having both meeting options available to our members moving forward. As difficult as these times have been, they have also driven a great deal of innovation and introspection on who we are as a local AIA Chapter and have underscored the importance of how we serve as a connector to our members and the varied interests they have.
In terms of revenue, our Sustaining Partnerships and Member’s annual dues are the Chapter’s primary source of income. With these two vital sources of support, we are able to maintain an adequate budget continuing our programs and services and meeting the goals of our Strategic Plan. The Chapter’s Board has taken a hard look at our budget this year and has made cuts to enable us to be as resilient and adaptable as possible both now, and for the years to come.
We want to thank our current Sustaining Partners for staying with us, and our new Partners for joining us during this time. Supporting the chapter is a win-win as it provides a solid foundation to the chapter budget, helps build brand awareness, offers marketing and networking opportunities, and is an effective approach to targeting architects and clients in the Sacramento region and beyond. And, for our valued members, THANK YOU for continuing your membership and being part of your professional association. If you have not yet renewed, or are facing financial challenges, please reach out to our Chapter staff. They are available to work with you to maintain your membership.
Wish you all well and hope to see you soon!
