In partnership with Preservation Sacramento
Overview: Historian William Burg will present the story of R Street’s past, present, and future, combining historic photos from the Center for Sacramento History and other collections with the surprising stories behind the photos.
Explore the eras of R Street, from its early days as Gold Rush transportation hub, its later days as an industrial corridor, its important role in Sacramento arts and counterculture, and its contemporary place as a historic district and mixed-use corridor. The presentation will conclude with an invitation to take a self-guided tour along R Street at your own pace.
Zoom link will be provided to registered participants.
Tour guide William Burg has over a decade of experience in research and rehabilitation of historic buildings, and has written seven books about Sacramento’s history.

Experience Architecture is a public-outreach event designed by AIA Central Valley to facilitate greater transparency with the public in how architects create our built environment and how it impacts their daily lives; to create an ongoing dialogue to inform a distinct, regional, architectural identity; and to highlight existing relationships between the region and its architecture.
This year’s event runs October 6-11, 2020. Find out more and see other events at www.aiacv.org/exparch
